Using Semantic Web Technologies for Cognitive Prostheses in Networked Interaction Therapy

This paper explores the concept of a ‘semantic desktop’ as a platform for Networked Interaction Therapy, which is a framework for providing support for people (clients) with dementia or memoryimpairment. Since personalized services are essential in networked interaction therapy, there is a need for both clients and caregivers to handle personal data. The semantic desktop can be used as a platform for handling these personal data. Application scenarios include supporting the creation of multimedia content to be used in therapy, such as reminiscence videos, and storing and analyzing care sessions, as well as providing a collaboration infrastructure intended for remote care sessions. The networked interaction therapy system is composed of a number of applications, and the metadata attached to the application data is utilized for sharing the data among different applications.
